Privacy
OpenFetch has no accounts and sets no cookies. The sites you look up and the files you download stay with you. We only hold what you choose to send us, short error notes that never include your site, and visit counts that identify no one.
What stays in your browser
Your settings, saved sites, favourite layers, presets, last site and the choices you make in the app are kept in your browser's local storage on your own device. They never leave it, and clearing your browser data removes them. The sites you look up and the files you download are never sent to us.
What we store, only if you send it
- Feedback (form): your message, its topic, the design software you ticked if any, the date, and your email only if you give it so we can reply. Deleted after two years.
- Report a problem (in the app): your words, your email only if you give it, and your site box only if you tick "include my site box". Deleted after 90 days.
We do not store IP addresses, passwords or payment details with these, and we never sell or share them. They are stored with Cloudflare in its Oceania region and only OpenFetch can read them.
If you joined the earlier Pro waitlist, your entry is kept only to email you once when Pro is ready, and is deleted when Pro launches or after two years at most. To see, correct or delete anything we hold about you, send a message through the feedback form with the same email address and we will do it within 30 days.
Error notes from the online app
When something fails in the online app, it sends us a short note so we can fix it. A note holds only what failed (for example which dataset did not load), the region, your browser and system family (for example "Chrome 141, Windows") and the date.
It never holds your site box, coordinates, addresses, lot numbers, searches, files or IP address. A council dataset's name does show which council area the failed data came from.
You can turn these notes off in Settings, General, "Send error reports". The downloadable copy of the tool never sends them. Notes are deleted after 90 days.
Visit counts
The website and the online app use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page visits, countries, browsers and which links brought people here. It uses no cookies, does not follow you across sites and does not identify you, so there is nothing to accept. The downloadable copy of the tool has no visit counter.
Who your browser talks to
OpenFetch runs in your browser, which asks these services directly for what you request:
- Esri for background maps and address search. Addresses you type are sent to Esri.
- Government and council data portals listed on the data sources page, for the area inside your site box.
- OpenFetch itself, for a few council datasets we host. Like any data portal, it only sees which part of the map was asked for.
- Overture Maps servers, only if you switch community data on.
- cdnjs and jsDelivr, which serve the open-source libraries the tool uses.
Each of these services has its own privacy policy and, like any website, sees your IP address when your browser asks it for something.
This website
openfetch.earth is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare processes requests to deliver the pages and may keep short-lived technical logs (such as IP addresses) for security. We add no advertising or cross-site tracking.
Changes
We follow the Australian Privacy Principles. If accounts or payments are added later, this page will say what is collected and why before anything changes.
